Covid-19: 3,680 new cases, 7 deaths

KUALA LUMPUR: The Health Ministry continued to record four-digit daily Covid-19 cases at 3,680 today.

Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said all but six new infections were local transmissions.

This brings the cumulative number of cases to 194,114, with 42,389 active cases.

Johor today topped the list with the most number of new cases, with 1,069 as of noon today. It is also the only state that recorded four-digit numbers.

"From this total, 961 (89.9 per cent) are from clusters and close contact screening actively being done on the field," he said in a statement today.

Selangor, meanwhile, logged 822 cases, followed by Kuala Lumpur with 698 cases.

Dr Noor Hisham also said that seven deaths were reported today, raising the total number of Covid-19 fatalities to 707.

Three deaths were reported in Selangor, two in Perak and one each in Sabah and Sarawak, all involving Malaysians.

He said 314 cases were being treated in the intensive care unit, while 122 patients required ventilators.

He said 1,858 had been discharged, taking the number of recoveries to 149,160.
