Selangor's Covid-19 infection rate increases

KUALA LUMPUR: New Covid-19 infections in Selangor rose to 43 per cent of the total new cases recorded nationwide.

On Saturday, Selangor recorded 1,481 or 38.5 per cent of the 3,847 new infections.

In a statement, Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said Selangor recorded 1,606 cases today making it the state with the highest number of Covid-19 cases.

Malaysia recorded 3,731 new Covid-19 cases today.

"From the total, 1,025 cases or 63.8 per cent were detected from clusters and close contact screening actively conducted in the field.

"Selangor was followed by Johor with 499 cases (13.4 per cent) and Kuala Lumpur at 372 or 10 per cent," he said.

Dr Noor Hisham said 1.2 per cent or 43 cases reported today, involved clusters at lockups, immigration detention depots and prisons.

The new cases involved the Tembok Sungai Udang cluster (18), Tembok Taiping cluster (nine), Tembok Renggam cluster (seven), Penjara Jalan Harapan cluster ( five), Penjara Seberang Perai cluster (three) and Tembok Mempaga cluster (one).

Dr Noor Hisham added there are 15 Covid-19 fatalities involving patients aged between 18-94 years old reported today. The new cases brought the total number of Covid-19 deaths to 872.

Based on the report, all patients had an underlying medical condition except for case-232,300 identified as a 94-year-old local woman who died at the Serdang Hospital.

"The fatalities involved four cases in Selangor, Kuala Lumpur (three), Sabah (three), Sarawak (two) and one in Penang, Kedah and Johor respectively," he said.
