EMCO at Tapah Prison extended

KUALA LUMPUR: The Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO) previously imposed at the Tapah Prison and staff quarters in Batang Padang, Perak will be extended for another two weeks, starting Tuesday (March 2) until March 15.

Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob in a statement today said the EMCO initially imposed at the place on Feb 16 was supposed to end tomorrow.

"To date, the Health Ministry has conducted 875 screenings, with 178 testing positive for Covid-19.

"The ministry has confirmed that there are 505 samples that awaiting results and the spread of infection is still going on among the detainees in this prison."

In the same statement, Ismail Sabri said EMCO will be enforced at Imperial Garments Flat workers' hostel at Anjung Tawas Damai in Perak, starting tomorrow until March 14.

He said to date, the Health Ministry has conducted 524 screenings, with 213 individuals tested positive.

"The ministry has confirmed that there was a sharp increase in cases in this locality, with a high-infectivity rate in the community.

He added the EMCO was to enable the ministry to conduct targeted screening on the hostel's residents and subsequently to prevent further infection in the community.

Meanwhile, EMCO imposed at Sekolah Menengah Sultan Idris Shah 2 in Gerik, Perak will end as scheduled tomorrow.

The area was first put on EMCO starting Feb 6.

"To date, the Health Ministry has screened 582 individuals, and from the total, 16 positive cases were recorded.

"The ministry confirmed that there are no active cases in this locality, with the situation under control."
