Go for swab test first before climbing Mt Kinabalu

RANAU: With Mount Kinabalu set to reopen this Friday, climbers have been advised to undergo a swab test three days before climbing activities.

In a statement by Sabah Parks, the management said it would only accept RTK-Antigen, PT-PCR and screening tests approved by the Health Ministry.

The tests, which are to be borne by the climbers, applies for climbing activities and those who stay overnight at Panalaban or Gurkha Hut.

"Only climbers with negative Covid-19 results would be allowed to register and climb the mountain.

"Climbers have to submit their reports of negative Covid-19 results to the personnel on duty before 10am on registration day," the statement said, adding that the booking fee for climbing would be forfeited should climbers fail to provide the results.

Booking fees could only be refunded should the climbers inform Sabah Parks prior to their registration day by 10am or should the mountain be closed due to unforeseen circumstances.

The management also accepts walk-in customers as long as they meet the requirement.

As for those who have been vaccinated, they are excluded from undergoing swab tests.

The daily quota for climbing Mount Kinabalu is 100 people at a time.
