Health DG: Malaysia can 'flatten the curve' in two weeks if progress continues [NSTTV]

PUTRAJAYA: The Covid-19 infectivity rate (Rt) is showing signs of improvement in several states, said Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

He said should the situation continue over the next two weeks, Malaysia will be able to flatten the infection curve.

"Yesterday, we recorded 1,745 new cases with the Rt at 0.81, which was lower than the Health Ministry's projection.

"In Selangor and Johor, the declining of the Rt has been very encouraging. Therefore, we need to maintain the Rt to further maintain the decline in cases," he said in a press conference today.

He added the Rt in Terengganu has reached 0.51.

"If we maintain it over the next two weeks, we will be able to flatten the curve of Covid-19 infection in the state," he said.

Dr Noor Hisham said full compliance with the standard operating procedures among the public as outlined by the ministry is crucial to reduce Covid-19 cases in the country.
