Malaysians in New Zealand urged to follow local authority advisory

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysians in earthquake-affected areas in New Zealand have been advised to follow instructions from local authorities.

They have also been urged to contact the High Commission immediately via phone at +64-21-0440188 or email at mwwellington@kln.gov.my for consular assistance said the Malaysian High Commission in Wellington, New Zealand in a series of tweets.

The advisory from the Malaysian High Commission comes following the 8.1 magnitude earthquake at the Kermadec Islands region, near New Zealand.

The New Zealand Civil Defence issued a tsunami warning for coastal areas namely the West Coast of the North Island from Cape Reinga to Ahipara; the East Coast of the North Island from Cape Reinga to Whangarei, from Matata to Tolaga Bay including Whakatane and Opotiki.

The High Commission said Malaysians in New Zealand should visit https://civildefence.govt.nz for the latest updates on the warning and continue to remain vigilant until the warning is called off.
