Village in Serian placed under EMCO

KUALA LUMPUR: Kampung Serumah Daerah Kecil Siburan in Serian, Sarawak will be placed under the Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO) for two weeks due to a spike in the number of new Covid-19 cases there.

Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob in a statement said the EMCO enforced in the locality will begin on March 7 to 20.

He said as of March 5, a total of 416 Covid-19 tests were carried out and 21 new cases were recorded.

"The EMCO in the locality will ease the Health Ministry's duty in carrying out Covid-19 tests on 580 residents and close contact tracing activity," he said.

Meanwhile, he said the government has decided to end the EMCO imposed at the dormitory, factory and Central Medicare construction site in Hilir Perak, Perak as scheduled.

Ismail Sabri said the EMCO at the locality will end tomorrow, March 7.

He said the Health Ministry has carried out 2,074 Covid-19 screening tests and of the total, 1,650 positive cases were recorded.

"The Health Ministry has confirmed that there is a downward trend in the infection cases there and clusters are also under control.

"All positive cases have undergone treatment and close contacts have been isolated and monitored," he said.
