Vet dept confirms another egg recall in Singapore

KUALA LUMPUR: The Veterinary Services Department (VSD) has acknowledged another recall of eggs in Singapore imported from a farm here due to the presence of Salmonella Enteritidis (SE).

A spokesperson from the department said they will issue a statement on the matter soon.

"The department is gathering information from related parties," said the spokesperson.

It was reported yesterday that the Singapore Food Agency (SFA) has recalled eggs with "CEM014" stamps on it due to the presence of SE.

SFA said the bacteria was detected in eggs imported from the Linggi Agriculture Sdn Bhd farm.

The farm's operation has been suspended and SFA said it would lift the suspension once the farm has rectified the SE contamination issue.

A similar incident occurred about a week ago, where eggs imported from another farm, Lay Hong Bhd Layer Farm Jeram here, were also recalled for the same issue.

SE may cause foodborne illnesses if food is consumed raw or undercooked, said SFA.
