Police launch MyBayar Saman; discounts up to 50 per cent

KUALA LUMPUR: An online summons payment system, MyBayar Saman, will make it easier for people to to settle their traffic summonses.

Inspector-General of Police's (IGP) Tan Sri Abdul Hamid Bador said the payment method was available at no extra charge on iOS and Android operating systems, as well as via a dedicated website http://mybayar.rmp.gov.my/.

The payment system, launched by Abdul Hamid at Bukit Aman here today, was an initiative by the Traffic Enforcement and Investigation Department (JSPT) with Bank Islam Malaysia as the payment gateway provider.

The website and application were launched at midnight on Wednesday (early Thursday morning) by offering a 50 per cent discount for selected offences until April 11. As of 3pm today, over RM1 million has been collected.

"Previously, we can see people lining up under the hot weather to enjoy the special discount rates. Now that we have made it easier for them to settle their summonses, we hope to collect RM500 million in a year," he said.

Between 1990 and 2020, the police collected RM6.6 billion (for various traffic offences), with RM1.89 billion collected in the last five years alone. He said there were still 32 per cent traffic offenders who have yet to pay their summonses in the 30-year period.

Having high number of summonses, he said, was not something to be proud of as it showed that many motorists in the country were still flouting traffic rules.

"If possible, we want to see less people getting summoned," he added.
