MyIMMs hacking: Six nabbed

PUTRAJAYA: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has arrested four technicians for allegedly installing devices and software to hack the Immigration Department's MyIMMs systems.

Sources said the arrest of the men, aged 34 to 39, led to the discovery of computers at the department which were equipped with hacking devices and software.

In addition, two department officers were also arrested on suspicion of colluding with the syndicate.

According to the source, the duo, aged 34 and 42, were involved in helping the syndicate with their hacking activities.

The two officers were also believed to have been receiving bribes as rewards for abetting the syndicate's activities.

Following the arrest, several IT hardware and computers were confiscated from the department's office.

Also seized were laptops, external hard disks belonging to the systems supplier's company which were used for hacking.

Sources added that MACC had identified four popular hotels in Kuala Lumpur that were used as hacking operation centres.

The latest arrest was the continuation of a joint-operation conducted with the department on Apr 6 at 22 locations in Kuala Lumpur and Sungai Petani.

In the previous operation, MACC had arrested the head of the syndicate, a "Datuk", and four syndicate members including an ex-Immigration officer.

A total 147 accounts – 30 individual and 11 company accounts – amounting to RM9,977,954.95 million have been frozen.

Apart from that, 30 units of properties valued at RM11,868,835 million and 66 vehicles amounting to RM13,691,847 million have also been confiscated and frozen.

When contacted, MACC Chief Commissioner Datuk Seri Azam Baki, confirmed the arrests.
