EMCO extended at three zones for 2 more weeks

KUALA LUMPUR: The Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO) has been extended at three zones in Sabah and Sarawak for another two weeks.

The two zones in Tawau are Bandar Sri Indah and Kampung Titingan while one in Sarawak is at Sungai Passin in Matu.

Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the EMCO at the three zones were previously scheduled to end tomorrow.

However, the Health Ministry detected emergence of cases in these areas.

"Eighty-one confirmed Covid-19 cases were detected from 607 individuals screened at the zones in Sabah.

"At Sungai Passin, out of 442 individuals screened, 49 Covid-19 cases were detected.

"Upon risk analysis by agencies under the technical committee, the government has agreed to extend the EMCO there from April 26 until May 9," he said in a statement today.

Meanwhile, EMCO at six zones in Tawau will end tomorrow as scheduled.

The six zones are - Taman Cahaya, Jalan Tengku Osman, Kuarters Bomba Tawau, Jalan Mesra, Taman Golden Hill and Taman Sri Bukit.

"The Health Ministry found the remaining cases are in downward trend while those tested positive have undergone treatment and their close contacts have been isolated.

"Upon risk analysis, the government has agreed to end EMCO tomorrow as scheduled," Ismail said.
