Boarding school students can go home for Raya

KUALA LUMPUR: Students at boarding schools, Form Six colleges and vocational colleges have been given the green light to go home for the upcoming Hari Raya Aidilfitri break.

The Education Ministry said students under group A (Johor, Kedah, Kelantan and Terengganu) would be allowed to return in stages starting May 6 while students under group B (other states) can return home from May 7 onwards.

Students could return home under four options - buses prepared by the schools; picked up by parents/guardians; air or water transports for Sabahans, Sarawakians and students in Labuan; or driving (Form Six and vocational college students only).

"Schools and colleges will inform parents/guardians on the schedule. The management will issue an interstate/inter-district travel verification letter to parents/guardians who will pick up their children," the Ministry said in a statement issued tonight.

However, based on the standard operating procedures set by the Health Ministry and National Security Council, students who are currently under quarantine would have to stay put at their hostels till the quarantine ends.

"The same goes for students who are in the Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO) areas, they can only return after the EMCO is lifted," the statement said.

Students from Group A need to report at school before or on June 12 while it's June 13 for Group B students.

Guidelines on the matter could be accessed at https://www.moe.gov.my.

It was previously announced that students at higher learning institutions will be allowed to cross state lines and return home for the coming Hari Raya Aidilfitri, except Sarawak.
