Anifah: Attacks by the Israeli government against Palestinian civilians must stop

KOTA KINABALU: Former foreign affairs minister Datuk Seri Anifah Aman has urged the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) to order Israel to cease attacks against Palestinian civilians immediately.

He said the UNSC must act swiftly and decisively against Israel including demanding an immediate cease of aggression.

"The Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) too must do its part and put pressure on the relevant parties in ensuring Israel cease all acts of aggression and terror towards the Palestinians.

"Pressure must include sanctions and necessary bans until the international community acts accordingly towards Israel," said Anifah in a statement.

He said the international community especially the UNSC must not remain silent and oblivious to the atrocities committed by Israel.

He said maximum efforts must be taken by the international community including the UNSC and OIC.

"It is appalling that the world has yet to find a solution to end the decades of brutality by the Israeli government against the defenceless Palestinians.

The Israeli government continues to violate international laws with its heavy-handed approach," said Anifah.

He was concerned that the Israeli government continues to lack accountability and continues to create ridiculous unwarranted justifications as an excuse to continue its reign of terror and inhumane actions against the Palestinians.

"How long must this continue? How long will the superpowers remain silent to this unjust and inhumane act carried out by the Israeli government?" he asked.

The heinous ongoing incursions and attacks by Israel against Palestinians civilians and worshippers in Al-Aqsa Mosque as well as forced evictions of Palestinians from their homes are not only a blatant disregard of international law but are also against the teachings of the Torah, he said.

"I am extremely dismayed by the diminishing prospect of co-existence and the deafening silence of the so-called superpowers of the world.

"The recent airstrikes by Israel in Gaza which resulted in multiple deaths including women and children continue without any action by the international community," said Anifah.
