76,000 being inoculated daily against Covid-19

KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 76,000 people are now being inoculated daily against the Covid-19 coronavirus in Malaysia.

Finance Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Zafrul Abdul Aziz said this was the new daily rate compared to 30,000 to 40,000 inoculations previously.

He said Malaysia's vaccination rates were also among the highest in the region ahead of Thailand, the Philippines and Indonesia.

"The vaccination rates will increase with the millions in vaccine doses that are due to arrive in June and July," said Tengku Zafrul after the National Security Council announced tighter restrictions for the current phase of MCO.

He also joined Science, Technology and Innovation Minister in rejecting claims that Malaysia was slow and that it would take some years before its population achieves herd immunity.

The government has allocated RM5 billion for the purchase of vaccines. The national vaccination programme intends to inoculate at least 80 per cent of the population against the Covid-19 coronavirus.
