Covid-19: Record high number of daily infections with 7,289, 60 deaths

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia surpassed the 7,000-mark in Covid-19 cases, hitting an all-time high of 7,289 infections as of noon today.

Selangor continues to lead with 2,642 cases, followed by Johor with 664, Kuala Lumpur with 604 and Sarawak at 513.

Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said Kelantan and Negri Sembilan reported 425 and 410 cases respectively, while Penang logged 380 cases, and Kedah 336 cases.

Other states with three-digit infections were Terengganu (268), Sabah (266), Melaka (258), Perak (218), and Pahang (211).

The federal territories of Labuan and Putrajaya recorded 63 and 23 cases each, while Perlis was the only state to report single-digit infections (eight).

Dr Noor Hisham said of the 525,889 total infections, 63,458 were active cases.

To date, 726 people are warded in intensive care units, with 373 needing ventilator support.

Sixty people died from Covid-19 today, increasing the death toll to 2,369 or 0.45 per cent.

Dr Noor Hisham said 3,789 recoveries were recorded today, bringing the total to 460,062.

The Health Ministry also detected 15 new Covid-19 clusters in Sarawak, Penang, Johor, Selangor, Kuala Lumpur. Sabah, Kedah, Perak, Pahang, and Kelantan.

Dr Noor Hisham said 10 of the clusters were linked to workplaces, while the remaining five were community and religious clusters.

The clusters are Jalan Dato Permaisuri (Miri, Sarawak); Perusahaan Maju Enam (Seberang Prai Tengah, Penang); Tasek Raja (Pasir Mas, Kota Baru and Tanah Merah, Kelantan); Kalabakan Selatan (Kalabakan, Sabah); Dah Cherok Bemban (Baling and Sik, Kedah); Jalan Segambut Lentang (Kuala Lumpur); and Industri Kledang Satu (Kinta, Perak).

Dr Noor Hisham said the three clusters in Johor were Jalan Cemerlang Elektrik and Jalan Sekuntum in Johor Baru; and Jalan Selendang in Kulai.

Selangor reported the most number of new clusters. They were Persiaran Setia Dagang Construction Site (Petaling); Jalan Enam Selatan 1A (Sepang, Petaling and Kuala Langat); Jalan Tahir Manan (Kuala Selangor), Desa Pinggiran Putra (Sepang); and Sungai Isap Perdana (Hulu Langat and Kuantan, Pahang).
