KUALA LUMPUR: The manner in which Prasarana Malaysia Bhd chairman Datuk Seri Tajuddin Abdul Rahman conducted Tuesday's press conference didn't go down well among Malaysian netizens.
Disappointed with the Pasir Salak MP, many called for the him to be removed from his position.
The wrath of Malaysians on social media was evident after two hashtags - #LetakJawatanTajuddin and #TajuddinLetakJawatan, were among the top trending hashtags in Malaysia.
Also trending were the #PasirSalak and #SignThePetition hashtags.
A Twitter user expressed his anger over the issue by saying, "Make this Tajuddin leave office first thing in the morning!" while another simply said "booo pakcik Tajuddin.. boooo".
"First thing in the morning" refers to Tajuddin's response during the press conference where he was asked why he did not go to the scene of the accident the very night it happened which was on Monday.
Tajuddin responded by saying he had another official matter to attend to on Monday and that he received information on the accident late, stating that he made a note to attend to the LRT collision "first thing in the morning" on Tuesday.
Also gaining traction is an online petition (https://www.change.org/p/prasarana-letakjawatantajuddin) demanding Tajuddin to resign from his post and for the Finance Ministry to sack him should he fail to resign.
As of 2pm today, almost 75,000 signatures have been collected.
Earlier today, the Malaysian Public Transport Users Association (4PAM) reprimanded Tajuddin for his conduct, describing it as "rude and disgusting".
The association called upon Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin to remove Tajuddin from his post.
Tajuddin landed in hot soup for his conduct during the press conference following his visit to the location where two LRT trains along the Kelana Jaya line were involved in a collision on Monday night.
Meanwhile, he is also facing an investigation for not wearing a face mask during the press conference.
The matter was confirmed by Dang Wangi police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohamad Zainal Abdullah, in a statement today.
The investigation was carried out under Section 21A of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988 (Act 342) and Regulation 17 of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases (Measures within the Infected Local Areas) Regulations 2021.
