BUTTERWORTH: A technician was charged at the Sessions Court here today for raping and committing incest with his 18-year-old daughter since 2009.
The 45-year-old claimed trial to 12 counts of rape and one count of incest when the charges were read to him by the court interpreter.
He was charged with committing the offences on his eldest child at their home in Taman Seri Delima here between 2009 and 2020.
The charges were framed under Section 376(B)(1) of the Penal Code and Section 14(a) read together with Section 16(1) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017.
Section 376(B)(1) carries minimum 10 years and maximum 30 years imprisonment and whipping upon conviction.
Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences against Children Act 2017 carries a maximum 20 years imprisonment and whipping upon conviction while Section 16(1) of the same Act carries maximum five years imprisonment and whipping upon conviction.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Muhamad Syeqal Che Murat prosecuted while the accused was unrepresented.
Syeqal told the court that no bail was offered.
"This is because the accused is staying with the victim in the same house," he said.
Earlier, the accused arrived at the Butterworth court complex about 9.05am before he was taken to the lock-up.
He lowered his head when photographers tried to take his photo.
Judge Norhayati Mohamad Yunus then fixed July 13 for mention.
Last Friday, police detained a factory technician following a police report lodged against him by his 18-year-old daughter for incest.
Seberang Prai Tengah district police chief Assistant Commissioner Shafee Abd Samad had said the suspect was nabbed in Bukit Tengah.
Earlier the same day, police said they were looking for the man after his daughter lodged a report against him for incest since she was six years old.
The latest incident was alleged to have happened at 6.30am last Tuesday when the man molested her.
At that time, the victim claimed they were in the living room while the victim's mother was in the bathroom. When she came out from the bathroom, the man stopped his action.
Prior to this, the victim, who now works at an eatery, alleged she had been molested and forced to have sex with the man, almost on a daily basis, since she was six years old.
She felt pressured by all the incidents but did not report them earlier to prevent her parents from divorcing.
Tuesday's incident was alleged to have been the last straw and the victim finally picked up the courage to lodge a police report.
