UUM Sintok under EMCO from June 13

KUALA LUMPUR: The Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO) will be imposed at the Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) campus in Sintok, Kedah from June 13 to 26, following the detection of 18 Covid-19 cases within a week.

Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said a total of 208 people have been screened for Covid-19 so far at the institute of higher learning.

"The Health Ministry has confirmed that there was a spread among the students with high infectivity rate in the locality.

"After carrying out risk assessment with various agencies in the MCO (Movement Control Order) technical committee and upon advice from the Health Ministry, the government agreed to impose the EMCO on the UUM campus in Sintok, Kedah that comes into effect June 13 to 26," he said in a statement today.

With the implementation of the EMCO, there will be no movement in and out of the campus to ensure no further spread of the virus and to allow the Health Ministry to conduct observation on students undergoing quarantine, he said.

Meanwhile, the EMCO would also be imposed on Kampung Kadazan, Tawau, Sabah, with 14 Covid-19 cases detected in the past week.

Ismail Sabri said 45 Covid-19 screenings were done, with the Health Ministry detecting a 31.11 per cent infectivity rate.

Also to be placed under a two-week EMCO from June 13 are two villages in Kota Kinabalu, namely Kampung Lobou 1 and Kampung Bukit Permai.

He said 15 Covid-19 cases were detected out of the 20 screenings done in these villages.

Another area in Sabah to be put under EMCO from June 13 is Taman Villa Felca Nambazan in Penampang, which saw eight Covid-19 cases registered in the past week, he said.
