MIECC mega PPV expected to deliver some 10,000 doses daily [NSTTV]

SERDANG: The mega Covid-19 vaccination centre (PPV) at the Mines International Exhibition and Convention Centre (MIECC) is expected to deliver some 10,000 doses daily soon, as part of the government's efforts to ramp up the National Immunisation Programme (NIP).

PPV manager Dr Mohd Naufal Ridzuan said its current daily capacity stood at about 5,000 vaccine doses since its opening on Monday.

The average daily doses administered is expected to pick up within 21 days, he said.

Once it reaches full capacity, the MIECC PPV will be able to conduct the largest scale vaccination exercise in the country, while the World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur PPV for AstraZeneca administers up to 8,100 doses a day.

"There was a crowd on our first day, but we managed to sort it out and re-arranged the layout of the premises to ease the whole vaccination process.

"The process has been smooth since, with some 400 personnel, including volunteers present to assist the public," Dr Mohd Naufal told reporters at the centre today.

In addition, he said a separate floor for the vaccination was dedicated for the disabled, as well as a drop-off and pick-up bay, to further ease the flow.

Apart from adhering to the Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) like maintaining physical distancing, he also reminded vaccine recipients with health conditions to bring their medications along.

"Please take your medicines as per usual. Vaccine recipients are reminded to be here 30 minutes prior to their appointment," he said.

A vaccine recipient, who refused to be named, said he had a pleasant experience at the centre, thanks to the smooth process and helpful volunteers.

"Though the place is huge, it was still easy for me to move about.

"MIECC has a cashless parking system, so we save the hassle of queueing up at the autopay machine," he said, adding that recipients needed to show their vaccine appointment date to the staff manning the entrance at the PPV.
