Almost all Home Ministry frontliners fully vaccinated

KUALA LUMPUR: Almost all frontliners under the Home Ministry have been vaccinated, with 133,781 personnel or 80 per cent having received both doses.

Home Minister Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainuddin said the move was to ensure a total 166,263 ministry personnel active on duty are protected during the Covid-19 pandemic.

"The vaccination programme also includes 130,326 policemen, followed by Immigration Department (14,321); Prisons Department (15,973); People's Volunteer Corps or Rela (957) and Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (4,686)," he told a press conference held at the ministry's headquarters, here, today.

Hamzah said the ministry has received approval from the Special Committee on Covid-19 Vaccine Supply Access Guarantee (JKJAV) to vaccinate all officers working at the service counters and agencies under the ministry.

The vaccination will be done in stages following the schedule set by the Covid-19 Immunisation Task Force (CITF).

"The approval received by JKJAV will ensure the ministry staff and officers can continue to perform their responsibilities to ensure the safety, peace and well-being of the people," he said.

On Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) compliance operations, Hamzah said 7,387 factories and 41,383 business premises allowed to operate during the Movement Control Order (MCO) have been inspected from June 14 to 17.

"A total 21 arrests have been made while 201 compounds were issued against the factories or business premises for violating the SOPs," he said, adding that 63 factories and business premises were ordered to close.

Hamzah said the ministry will take stern action against employers or factories who provide false information to obtain permission to operate during the MCO while ignoring SOPs.
