KUALA LUMPUR: Negri Sembilan and Johor recorded the highest infectivity rate or R-naught (Rt) at 1.05 and 1 respectively as of yesterday.

Rt refers to the infectivity rate of a virus and the ability of a positive patient to transmit it to others.

If the Rt value is 1.5, it means a positive patient would be able to infect one or two other persons.

The nationwide Rt stands at 0.97, said Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah on his official Facebook page last night.

The Rt in a majority of states nationwide hovers around 0.9, according to the data released by Dr Noor Hisham.

In Sarawak, the Rt was 0.99, 0.98 in Labuan, 0.96 in Sabah and Kuala Lumpur, 0.93 in Selangor, 0.91 in Melaka, 0.90 in Perak and Kedah.

In Kelantan, the Rt was at 0.81, 0.77 in Penang, 0.76 in Perlis, 0.75 in Pahang, 0.73 in Putrajaya and 0.68 in Terengganu.

A graph uploaded by Dr Noor Hisham showed that the nationwide Rt value had been in the range of 0.9 since June 6.

On June 10 it was at 0.91, 0.90 on June 12 and June 16 at 0.93.

However, it has been on a gradual rise in the past four days since June 17 when the value was at 0.95 and rose to 0.97 yesterday.

From June 1, the Rt was 1.07 and steadily dropped for five consecutive days to 1.0 on June 5.
