Bukit Aman: Probe launched against dentist over 'Code Black' support

KUALA LUMPUR: Federal police have initiated a probe against a man believed to be a dentist for a video he uploaded in connection with the "Code Black" protest in supporting of contract doctors.

The man, who introduced himself as "Dr Han @ Gigi Han", is being probed for incitement and misuse of internet facilities.

Federal Criminal Investigation Department director Datuk Abd Jalil Hassan said the investigation was based on a six-minute video clip of the man who had allegedly condemned the government's contractual employment scheme for doctors and urged the public to join the protest.

"In the video, he is heard encouraging viewers to show their solidarity and support by changing their profile photos on social media to monochrome colour or black from July 1 onwards. Code Black is actually a term used to describe a threat at hospitals or a bomb.

"But in this case, it aims at supporting contract doctors to be absorbed as permanent (medical staff)," he said in a statement today.

Jalil said police were investigating the case under Section 505(c) of the Penal Code for intent to incite or which is likely to incite any class or community of persons to commit any offence against any other class or community of persons, and under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 for sharing offensive and menacing content.

"Investigations are ongoing. Once completed, it (the investigation paper) will be handed over to the Attorney-General's Chambers for further instruction," he said, adding that the public should not speculate on the case.
