Outbreak at Shah Alam PPV now an official Covid-19 cluster

KUALA LUMPUR: The Health Ministry has formally registered the Covid-19 outbreak among volunteers and healthcare workers at the Shah Alam's Ideal Convention Centre (IDCC) as a cluster.

Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah, in a statement last night, said that as of Wednesday, 104 new infections have been recorded in the cluster, named the Jalan Pahat 15 cluster.

"As of noon on Wednesday, 463 people have been tested.

"A total of 104 people tested positive (all Malaysians) while 259 tested negative.

"We are still awaiting test results of another 100 people," he said, adding that targeted testing was conducted on July 10 after tests on some of the symptomatic workers came back positive.

Dr Noor Hisham said the authorities were in the midst of investigating the source of cluster at the IDCC, which serves as a vaccination centre (PPV).

The outbreak, announced on Tuesday, involved 204 of the total 453 workers in the vaccination centre.

However 88 per cent of the overall workers had been vaccinated.

The centre as a result was closed for a day for sanitisation works.

As precautionary measure, those who received their jabs at the PPV between July 9 (4pm onwards) and July 12 have also been urged to monitor their health situation for the next 10 days.
