GEORGE TOWN: Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow has been ordered to undergo home quarantine after coming into close contact with a Covid-19 patient.

Chow said he had just received confirmation that his bodyguard was tested positive for Covid-19.

"As such, I have been ordered by the state Health Department to undergo home quarantine with immediate effect," he said in a brief statement this afternoon.

Chow said he took the Reverse Transcription Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-PCR) test on Friday and the result came back negative.

He is due for another screening on Wednesday.

Earlier this morning, Chow was at Dewan Sri Pinang here to witness the inoculation of the state's trishaw riders and taxi drivers.

A total of 165 trishaw riders and 110 taxi drivers are expected to gain from the programme.
