47 new Covid-19 clusters detected today

KUALA LUMPUR: The Health Ministry detected 47 new Covid-19 clusters which contributed to 1,784 new cases nationwide today.

Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said 1,197 of the new cases were recorded from 24 workplace clusters.

"The workplace cluster with highest number of new infections was the Industri Jalan Sepintas cluster involving Klang, Kuala Langat, and Petaling areas with 250 cases.

"A total of 3,455 people were screened," he said.

Dr Noor Hisham said 17 community-related clusters were also detected, which contributed 489 cases.

"The Tanjung Tuang cluster in Samarah, Sarawak, recorded the highest number of community-related cases at 84. A total of 553 people were screened," he said.

Dr Noor Hisham said a number of high-risk clusters were also detected, namely at Jalan Awan Kelarai in Lembah Pantai, Kuala Lumpur; Taman Desa Permai in Tampin, Negri Sembilan; Jalan Mahmood in Kota Baru, Pasir Mas, Bachok, and Tanah Merah, Kelantan.

On the education-related clusters, 41 cases were reported from Jalan Saujana Indah in Melaka and Jalan Seri Alam in Kuala Selangor.

The Sungai Koyan Tiga cluster, involving a religious gathering in Lipis, Pahang Lipis, recorded 11 cases after screening 101 individuals.

Dr Noor Hisham said Johor has the highest number of clusters with 10 followed by Sarawak and Kelantan with eight clusters, respectively, and six clusters in Selangor.

Three clusters were found in Kuala Lumpur and two clusters were detected in Sabah, Pahang, Negri Sembilan and Melaka.

One cluster was detected in Putrajaya, Kedah, Penang, and Perak.

There are now 1,092 active clusters in the country.
