Umno veep Khaled to step down from Boustead role

KUALA LUMPUR: Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin will resign as the non-executive chairman of Boustead Holdings Bhd effective tomorrow.

The former Johor Menteri Besar said this was in line with Umno's decision to withdraw its support for Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and the Perikatan Nasional (PN) government.

"I hereby announce my resignation as the non-executive chairman of Boustead Holdings Bhd effective Thursday Aug 5.

"This is in line with my responsibility as a party member who will respect the decision made by the party," he said in a statement that was shared on his Facebook account.

In the same post, Mohamed Khaled thanked the board of directors in Boustead Holdings for their commitment and cooperation during his tenure with the government-linked company.

Yesterday, Umno supreme council member Datuk Dr Shamsul Anuar Nasarah, who is also the Lenggong member of Parliament, announced his resignation as the Energy and Natural Resources Minister.

Shamsul, in a statement, had said that the resignation was due to his loyalty to Umno.

Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi later the same day announced the party's decision to withdraw its support for PN as well as Muhyiddin.

Zahid claimed that he had presented to Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah statutory declarations of Umno MPs who had retracted their support for the prime minister.
