Appreciate nature, Sultan Kedah says after Gunung Jerai incident

ALOR SETAR: Sultan Kedah, Sultan Sallehuddin Sultan Badlishah said he was deeply saddened by the water column incident in Gunung Jerai on Wednesday.

In a statement issued via Comptroller of the Kedah Royal Household Datuk Paduka Bakar Din, Sultan Sallehuddin offered condolences to the affected families and hopes they remain calm facing the challenges.

"During the incident, 16 families in Kuala Muda district and 890 families in 24 villages in Yan were affected.

"The incident in Yan claimed four lives while one suffered minor injuries and two remain missing.

"The Sultan prays the missing people will be found soon safe and sound," he said in a statement today.

Sultan Sallehuddin wishes residents at the affected areas to always be careful, prioritise personal and family safety.

He urged the people to continue adhering to the authorities to relocate to relief centres and follow standard operating procedures (SOP) to prevent a Covid-19 outbreak.

"Sultan Sallehuddin hopes all parties can appreciate nature and preserve and care for the environment to prevent any recurrence.

"He also expressed gratitude to the state and federal governments, agencies, security personnel, private companies and individuals who took immediate action to help the victims of the tragedy."

Sultan Sallehuddin expressed gratitude for the assistance given by other states to Kedah.
