Putrajaya Hospital PPVK ready to vaccinate teens below 18

PUTRAJAYA: Putrajaya Hospital has made all the necessary preparations to administer the Covid-19 vaccine for teenagers 18 years old and below at the hospital's special vaccination centre (PPVK).

Putrajaya Hospital Public Health unit chief cum Chief Vaccine Program Coordinator Dr Siti Alia Elliza said they are now just awaiting orders from the government to carry out the inoculation.

She said the teenagers who will be inoculated with the vaccine at the PPVK are recipients who have been referred to by the hospital's own medical specalists as well as those referred from external healthcare centre and vaccination centres (PPV).

"To date we have administered the Comirnaty vaccine to 5,115 recipients since May," she said at the handing over ceremony of a PPVK air-conditioned canopy from Putrajaya Holdings Sdn Bhd (PJH) today.

Also present was PJH general manager in marketing, sales and rental Sabariah Ramli.

The PPVK which will operate outside the hospital is in cooperation with PJH and is meant to increase vaccination rollout.

Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin had said vaccination for those below 18 would kick-off in Sarawak since the state has already reached 80 per cent vaccination rate of its adults.

Dr Alia said the Putrajaya Hospital PPVK began administering phase 2 of the vaccination programme since May and phase 3 since July.

Before operations were moved to the canopy, they only vaccinated 90 individuals daily but have since doubled it.

A total of 2,300 frontliners at the hospital have also been vaccinated and only a few have yet to be jabbed due to health issues or pregnancy.

"The PPVK programme here will operate until June next year and will also involve vaccination for teens below 18 years old," she added.
