Covid-19 vaccination: Kelantan sees over 5,000 walk-ins on first day of programme

KOTA BARU: Kelantan recorded more than 5,000 people who walked in to get their Covid-19 vaccine jabs at 21 vaccination centres (PPV) throughout the state.

State health director Datuk Dr Zaini Hussin said the figure was recorded on the first day of the walk-in approach which started yesterday, adding that the department estimated more than 10,000 people to get vaccinated under this initiative.

"In our meeting on Saturday, the department decided to allow the public to get their vaccine jabs via walk-in, which will involve some 10,740 people based on the MySejahtera registrations.

"The number of people who turned up yesterday had been overwhelming with more than half of the estimated target having visited the 21 PPVs," he told reporters after attending the state-level National Security Council (NSC) meeting, here, today.

With the latest development, Dr Zaini said the department was upbeat on Kelantan hitting its vaccination target of 80 per cent by the end of this month.

"With this kind of response and also with the extra 1.2 million vaccine doses that we will get this month, we are confident that Kelantan will reach herd immunity by the end of this month.

"Currently, we have inoculated between 32,000 and 35,000 people daily," he said.

Dr Zaini also said Kelantan was ready to vaccinate students aged below 18 before the schools reopen next month.

Based on the statistics provided by the state Education Department, Dr Zaini said Kelantan has more than 130,000 students aged between 12 and 17 years old.
