GSC to remain closed until SOPs issued

KUALA LUMPUR: Golden Screen Cinemas (GSC) is pulling the handbrakes on reopening tomorrow until the government issues the standard operating procedures (SOP) the industry needs to comply with.

GSC told the New Straits Times that it had received notification from the Malaysian Association of Film Exhibitors that cinemas would not be reopened tomorrow.

"We are currently pending the full, proper SOP from the government and additionally, a selection of films are also currently undergoing censorship review.

"As such, GSC will remain closed until further notice, but as soon as we have any updates, we will make an announcement on our social media accordingly," GSC said.

Yesterday, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob announced that cinemas would be allowed to reopen to fully vaccinated individuals with 50 per cent capacity starting tomorrow.

This was part of the government's decision to relax restrictions for the creative industry for states currently under Phase One of the National Recovery Plan as some states have or have achieved herd immunity or have vaccinated at least 80 per cent of their respective adult population.
