Covid-19: 21,176 new cases today [NSTTV]

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia recorded a spike in the number of Covid-19 positive cases with 21,176 new cases as of noon today, taking the national tally to 1,940,950.

Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said Sarawak topped the list for the third consecutive day with 3,734 infections, followed by Selangor with 3,595.

Johor recorded 2,297 cases, followed by Sabah (2,246), Penang (1,939), Kedah (1,808), Perak (1,366) and Kelantan (1,254).

"Pahang recorded 853 cases, followed by Terengganu (776), Melaka (485), Kuala Lumpur (467), Negri Sembilan (252), Perlis (77), Putrajaya (21) and Labuan reported six new cases," said Dr Noor Hisham.

The number of active cases, however, is on the decline at 248,763. There were more recoveries than new cases.

Hospital bed usage nationwide for non-intensive care unit (ICU) cases stood at 17,493, while 1,590 ICU beds were occupied by Covid-19 patients in the last 24 hours, he said.

He also said ICU bed utilisation was at 82 per cent, while non-ICU was at 77 per cent.

Kedah is the only state with an over 100 per cent ICU bed utilisation for Covid-19 at 132 per cent.
