King, Queen arrive in London for special visit [NSTTV]

LONDON: Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah, and the Raja Permaisuri Agong Tunku Hajah Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah, arrived in London last night for a special visit to the United Kingdom (UK) from today until Sept 27.

The royal couple were received on arrival at the Heathrow Airport by Malaysian High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, Ambassador Zakri Jaafar and wife Nor Aini Abdul Rahman.

On arrival at the hotel in central London, the Yang di-Pertuan Agong and the Raja Permaisuri Agong were introduced to the heads of departments of the various Malaysian agencies in London as well as their spouses.

Wisma Putra said in a statement that on Sept 24, the King and Queen will visit the Battersea Power Station, Malaysia's iconic project in London which is a joint venture between Sime Darby Property, SP Setia Berhad, Employees Provident Fund (EPF) and Permodalan Nasional Berhad (PNB).

The Royal couple have also consented to meet the Malaysian diaspora for tea at the Malaysian High Commission in London in the afternoon. Attending the meeting will be entrepreneurs, academics, students, and community leaders.

According to the statement: "On Sept 25, His Majesty is scheduled to visit the Tun Abdul Razak Research Centre (TARRC) which is owned by the Malaysian Rubber Board (MRB) and one of the world's leading rubber research and development (R&D) institutions."

Wisma Putra remarked that the special visit symbolises the importance of the close relationship between Malaysia and the United Kingdom manifested at the highest level of government.

Apart from that, the visit signifies the King and Queen's concern for the well-being of Malaysians as well as the investment performance and the country's interests in the United Kingdom, especially during this challenging pandemic period.
