Terengganu to begin vaccinating Form 4 and 5 students Sept 21

KUALA TERENGGANU: Terengganu will administer Covid-19 vaccines to 36,507 Form 4 and Form 5 students in the state, starting Sept 21.

State Health director Datuk Dr Kasemani Embong said the inoculation process would be carried out at 54 schools across the state.

Dr Kasemani said these students categorised as eligible group to be vaccinated, aged 16 and 17, would be given the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine.

"Based on the number of students to be vaccinated, 18,264 of them are in Form Four and the rest in Form 5.

"Students who will be vaccinated are those studying at secondary schools under the Education Ministry as well as those in Sekolah Menengah Agama and Mara Junior Science College (MRSM)," he told reporters after inspecting the level of compliance of the standard operating procedures (SOP) at the popular Pasar Payang,here.

Present were Bandar state assemblyman Ahmad Shah Muhamed, Kuala Terengganu City Council Mayor Rozali Salleh and Kuala Terengganu district officer Ariffin Abdullah.

Dr Kasemani said the vaccination programme involving Form 4 and 5 students was expected to conclude before the school session begins on Oct 3.

The state health department, he said, would prioritise Form 4 and 5 students, who need to prepare and sit for their examination.

As for vaccination involving other secondary school students, Dr Kasemani said the department was still waiting for approval to be given to this group of students.
