Government to announce Tabung Haji RCI terms soon

PASIR PUTEH: The terms and conditions of the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) on the audits of Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH) are expected to be announced soon.

Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Ahmad Marzuk Shaary said the government is now in the midst of identifying the list of the RCI members.

"At the moment, we are identifying the membership of RCI who will likely be made up of legal experts and those in the field of syariah.

"Once the terms and conditions are completed, the government hopes all issues that had been brought up either in Parliament or even on social media related to Tabung Haji, would be resolved," he said after presenting a donation from the Kelantan Malaysian Islamic Economic Development Foundation (YaPEIM) to villagers at Kampung Nelayan Baru here today.

In July, Marzuk said the investigation regarding TH's audits had nothing to do with Perikatan Nasional's (PN) time of administration.

He said the RCI's scope covered the years 2014 until 2020, and that period included the time under the Pakatan Harapan (PH) government.

The government had announced on July 14 that the cabinet agreed to set up an RCI under the Commission of Enquiry Act 1950 to investigate TH's audits which were conducted by independent auditors such as PricewaterhouseCoopers, Ernst & Young and Roland Berger from 2014 to 2020.

It said the RCI would involve a transparent probe, and it would find out if TH had carried out its mandate professionally in managing the deposits of Muslims.

On today's donation, Marzuk, who is Pengkalan Chepa member of parliament, said it was part of the YaPEIM's Qaseh Prihatin programme.

"The government had earlier allocated RM6 million for YaPEIM to carry out various welfare activities to help the needy.

"An additional RM5 million was put into this effort as many people, especially those under the B40 group, have been badly affected by Covid-19 pandemic.

"It shows how the government is really concerned for the people. It's also in line with the Malaysian Family concept introduced by the Prime Minister," he added.
