105 more deaths from Covid-19; Penang logs highest fatality rate

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia recorded another 105 Covid-19 deaths as of 11.59pm yesterday, taking the national toll to 26,981.

Based on data shared on the Health Ministry's CovidNow site, 26 of yesterday's fatalities were brought-in-dead (BID) cases. BID cumulative cases now stood at 5,424.

For the past two-weeks, 4.6 deaths were recorded per 100,000 people due to Covid-19.

Penang remained the state with the highest number of deaths per 100,000 people in the past 14-days at 10.1 followed by Perlis (9.8) and Johor (6.6).

Of the 1,499 deaths reported in the past two-weeks, 51.7 per cent of the victims were unvaccinated, 16.6 per cent were partially vaccinated and 31.7 per cent were fully vaccinated.

In terms of age, a majority or 65.6 per cent were 60-years-old and above, 18 to 59 years-old (33.4 per cent), 12 to 17 years-old (0.1 per cent) and 0 to 11-years-old (0.4 per cent).

Active cases in Malaysia now stood at 132,175 after 9,367 new cases and 13,045 recoveries were reported yesterday.

Of the active cases, 106,903 (80.9 per cent) were under home quarantine, 16,328 cases (12.4 per cent) were at the Covid-19 quarantine and treatment centre, 8,097 cases (6.1 per cent) received treatment at hospitals, and the remaining 847 cases (0.6 per cent) were at intensive care units (ICU).

Of the 847 ICU patients, 445 of them were ventilated.

The nationwide ICU utilisation rate is at 63.2 per cent, ventilator utilisation rate at 48.1 per cent and hospitalisation rate at 69.7 per cent.

Penang has the highest ICU utilisation rate at 92 per cent, with 81 ICU beds in Penang being used, followed by Putrajaya (85 per cent) and Perak (77.2 per cent).

As for hospitalisation, Terengganu topped the chart, with 89.1 per cent beds used followed by Labuan (79.8 per cent) and Penang (78.8 per cent).

On vaccination, 74.1 per cent of the total population (24,200,366 people) have received one dose of the Covid-19 vaccine including 20,915,720 who have been fully vaccinated.

A total 88.8 per cent of the adult population have completed both doses while 65.5 per cent of adolescents have at least received one dose.

Yesterday, 209,907 doses of vaccine were administered nationwide where 113,441 people received their first dose and 96,466 received their second dose.

Since the Covid-19 National Immunisation Programme rolled out on Feb 24, a total 45,007,832 doses of Covid-19 were administered.

The Health Ministry projected 80 per cent of the population (26,125,920 people) will be fully vaccinated by Nov 16.
