13 new clusters today, says Health D-G

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia reported a slight increase in Covid-19 cases over past 24-hour with 7,950 infections recorded as of noon today.

Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said in his daily press statement that the latest figure brought the cumulative coronavirus cases in the country to 2,361,529.

Yesterday, Malaysia reported 7,276 Covid-19 cases.

"Of the new cases, 29 were imported cases involving 21 Malaysians and eight foreigners.

"Also, 7,817 cases (98.3 per cent) are under Category 1 and 2 while 133 cases are under Category 3,4 and 5," he said in a statement today.

Dr Noor Hisham said 10,832 recoveries were logged today, bringing the overall number of recoveries to 2,227,889 or 94.3 per cent of all cases.

To date, 725 patients were treated at the intensive care units where 380 cases were ventilated.

Meanwhile, he said 13 clusters were identified today involving six workplace clusters, three community clusters, two education institution clusters, and one high group cluster and one detention centre cluster.

Four of those workplace clusters were detected in Selangor (Industri Jalan Zurah Lima, Industri Jalan Sembilan Olak Sempit, Persiaran Bukit Raja construction site and Jalan Haji Taib Salak) and one each in Melaka (Industri Jalan Usaha Enam) and Kedah (Dah Putih Industri Kulim).

The three community clusters comprised two in Sarawak (Menuang and Ensurai) which were both detected in the Limbang district; and one (Bukit Damar) in Temerloh, Pahang.

The education institution clusters were each identified In Kedah (Dah Taman Melor) and Negri Sembilan (Persiaran Lavender Dua).

The Jalan Pegawai cluster is the sole high-risk group cluster, involving a public service institution located in the Sabak Bernam District Office complex.

The only detention centre, DTI Bekenu, involved a detention centre in Jalan Coastal Bintulu-Miri in Bekenu, Subis, Sarawak.
