Covid-19: 78 deaths, including 17 BID

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia logged 78 Covid-19 deaths on Friday.

Based on data shared via the Health Ministry's CovidNow and Github sites, the figure includes 17 brought-in-dead (BID) cases.

To date, the coronavirus has claimed 28,312 lives including 5,718 BID victims.

Sarawak recorded the highest number of new deaths with 17 cases (including four BID), followed by Selangor with 11 cases (including three BID), Perak with 11 cases, Penang with 10 cases (including three BID), Johor with nine cases, Sabah with seven cases (including three BID), Kedah with six cases (including one BID), Negri Sembilan with three cases (including one BID), Kelantan with two cases (both BID) and one case each in Perlis and Terengganu.

Melaka, Pahang, Kuala Lumpur, Labuan, and Putrajaya reported no new deaths.

Nationwide, there was an average of 27 deaths per one million people over the past two weeks, while Klang Valley stood at 12 per one million people within the same period.

Perlis recorded the highest at 71 deaths per one million people in the same period, followed by Sarawak (63), Penang (47), Perak (36), Kelantan (34), Johor (28), Melaka (26), Sabah (25), Kedah (19), Terengganu (17), Negri Sembilan (16), Pahang (15), Selangor (13), Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya (nine) and Labuan (zero fatality rate).

According to the data, 45 per cent of reported deaths related to Covid-19 for the past two weeks involved people who were unvaccinated against the virus.

Partially vaccinated people accounted for 8.5 per cent of the total fatalities linked to Covid-19 in the country, and 46.5 per cent of the total deaths were those who have been fully vaccinated.

The data available on the portal also stated that most of the people who died from the virus were aged 60 and above (74.4 per cent) while people aged 18 to 59 accounted for 24.9 per cent of the fatalities, followed by those aged 12 to 17 (0.3 per cent) and 0 to 11 years old (0.2 per cent).

Currently, 72.2 per cent of the total population have been fully vaccinated against the virus, involving 23,565,799 individuals.

It is projected that the country will achieve its goal of 80 per cent population immunity in 53 days by Dec 15.

Meanwhile, 773 per cent of active Covid-19 cases (62,387) are under home quarantine; 14 per cent (or 11,306) have been placed at Integrated Quarantine and Treatment Centres, and 7.9 per cent (or 6,361) are hospitalised.

The Health Ministry reported 643 patients currently being treated at intensive care units (ICU) at healthcare facilities nationwide.

Of the total, 320 are ventilated.

On ICU utilisation, the rate nationwide stood at 60.4 per cent, while in Klang Valley at 68.9 per cent.

Sarawak reported the highest ICU utilisation rate at 77.7 per cent, followed by Kelantan (74.2), Perak (71.3), Putrajaya (70), Selangor (68.9), Kuala Lumpur (65.8), Penang (61.6), Terengganu (59.6), Johor (58.7), Pahang (55.9), Melaka (54.3), Perlis (52.6), Kedah (50), Sabah (48.4), Labuan (33.3) and Negri Sembilan (20.9).

As for ventilator utilisation, the Klang Valley stood at 30.1 per cent, while the rest of the country at 41.8 per cent.

Meanwhile nationwide, hospital bed utilisation stood at 67.5 per cent, while the Klang Valley at 53.1 per cent.

Malaysia had on Friday reported 6,630 new Covid-19 cases.

Selangor topped the list with 1,322 new infections, followed by Sarawak (750), Sabah (641), Kelantan (589), Johor (548), Penang (440), Terengganu (439), Kedah (432), Perak (381), Kuala Lumpur (322), Pahang (302), Negri Sembilan (192), Melaka (183), Putrajaya (44), Perlis (43) and Labuan (two).

Yesterday, 157,999 Covid-19 vaccines and 18,267 booster shots were administered nationwide.
