Malaysia, Japan ties can be strengthened further via Look East Policy

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia has made great strides in almost all fields through the implementation of the Look East Policy, which will enter its 40th anniversary next year.

Japanese ambassador to Malaysia Oka Hiroshi said the successes achieved by Malaysia among others included those in the businesses and education sectors.

Nevertheless, he said he believes there is still room for Malaysia and Japan to strengthen its cooperation under the Look East Policy.

"The Look East Policy has brought about enormous achievements in all fields including in the businesses and education sectors. We can feel the successes achieved by Malaysia through the implementation of this policy wherever we are in this country," said Oka during his corporate visit to Media Prima Bhd (MPB) in Sri Pentas here today.

Present to welcome Oka and representatives from the embassy were MPB group chairman Datuk Seri Dr Syed Hussian Aljunid and its group managing director Rafiq Razali.

During his visit, Oka and representatives from the embassy were briefed on Media Prima operations.

The group also visited REV Media Group, Media Prima Audio facilities and news operations in Studio A.

On his visit, Oka said it will pave the way for greater collaboration between the embassy and the media company, subsequently further strengthening the ties enjoyed between Malaysia and Japan.

As next year marks the 40th anniversary of the Look East Malaysia policy, Oka believes that it is a good time to highlight the achievements made by Malaysia as well as the solid ties between the country and Japan.

"It is very important to let many the people know that we are here to work with Malaysians for greater business opportunities, education as well as areas related to human capital development," he said.

The embassy, said Oka, will be organising several events including seminars to commemorate the Look East Policy's 40th anniversary.

"We want to reach out to more Malaysians and share with them the importance of the Look East Policy. And for that to happen, we are counting on MPB through its various media platforms including the New Straits Times as well as new media outlet such as Says," he said.
