Infectivity rate continues an upward trend

KUALA LUMPUR: The Covid-19 infectivity rate (Rt) continued an upward trend with a Rt of 0.94 as of Wednesday.

The Rt was 0.91 on Tuesday, 0.89 on Monday and 0.88 on Sunday.

Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said Negri Sembilan Rt remained at 1.02, highest among all states, followed by Kuala Lumpur (1.0) and Melaka (0.98).

Rt in Putrajaya stood at (0.96), Selangor (0.95), Sabah and Kedah (0.92), Johor (0.89), Penang, Pahang and Perlis (0.87), Terengganu and Kelantan (0.86), Perak (0.85) and Sarawak (0.84).

He said Malaysia recorded 6,377 fresh cases as of noon today, bringing the total number of coronavirus cases in the country to 2,454,749.

Of the fresh cases, 6,345 were local transmission, while 32 were imported cases that involved 20 Malaysians and 12 foreigners.

"A total of 98.4 per cent (6,276) of the cases were under Category 1 and 2 while the remaining 1.6 per cent (101) were under Category 3,4 and 5."

As of noon, 6,637 recoveries were reported, taking the toll to 2,354,622 (95.9 per cent).

"Currently, 564 cases are being treated at the intensive care units, including 64 patients who require ventilator help."

Meanwhile, Dr Noor Hisham said eight clusters were identified today, namely five workplace clusters, and one each involving high-risk group, community and education clusters.

The workplace clusters were the Industri Jalan Kemajuan Bangi 2, Industri Jalan Telok Mengkuang clusters that were detected in Selangor, Jalan Besi cluster (Kuala Lumpur), Paya Pasir cluster (Pahang) and Industri Banang Jaya cluster (Johor).

The Jalan Batu Gantung cluster, a high-risk group cluster, was identified in the North East district in Penang; the sole community cluster was detected in Sabak Bernam Selangor and the Merinding 2 education cluster was reported in Labuan.
