UiTM student tests positive for Covid-19 after attending programme

MELAKA: A UiTM Lendu student has been tested positive for Covid-19 after attending a programme, the Melaka Health Department said.

Worse, Melaka Health Department director Dr Rusdi Abd Rahman said, following the case, eight more students were detected experiencing upper respiratory tract symptoms (URTI).

The first case was detected after the Alor Gajah Health Office received a notification from the university's clinic on Tuesday at 2pm.

The student was tested positive through the use of a rapid test kit.

"Further investigations revealed the nine students (the one tested positive and those with URTI) had attended a leadership programme on Nov 7, organised by a non-governmental organisation from Nov 3 to 7 at a resort in Alor Gajah.

"There were at least 45 students, from various UiTM campuses, who had attended the programme," Dr Rusdi said in a statement.

He said the nine students had undergone the Covid-19 PCR test and were awaiting results.

"The other students (who had also attended the programme) are being identified and isolated to stop the virus from spreading.

"Several student residences at UiTM Lendu have been closed from Nov 11 to 22."
