Two students killed after being hit by Perodua Axia [NSTTV]

MELAKA: Two Form 4 students were killed after the motorcycle they were riding on was hit by a car on Jalan Krubong Permai, here, last night.

In the 9.10pm incident, the motorcycle's passenger, Erwan Idris, 16, died at the scene, while his friend, Putra Norsyaqir Putrawirawan, 16, who was riding the motorcycle, died while being treated at Melaka Hospital.

Melaka Tengah District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Christopher Patit said they received the accident report at 9.53pm involving two Perodua Axia cars and a Perodua Myvi, as well as the motorcycle.

He said a preliminary investigation revealed a 25-year-old wholesale market worker was driving the Perodua Axia from the Krubong traffic light towards Taman Krubong Permai.

"Upon arriving at the scene of the accident at about 9.10pm, the Perodua Axia was found to have entered the opposite lane as a result of falling asleep and colliding with a motorcycle ridden by two 16-year-old boys who came from the opposite direction until it got stuck under the car.

"The car then hit a Perodua Myvi driven by a married couple aged 27 and 26 who were also coming from the opposite direction," he said in a statement today.

Christopher said that the investigation at the location found that the road was flat and dry and that there was footage from the dashboard camera of another vehicle.

"As a result of the collision, the motorcycle rider died at the scene, while the rider passed away while receiving treatment in the hospital red zone.

"However, the drivers of both cars and the female passenger suffered no injuries," he said.

He added further investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the accident under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

"The victims' bodies were sent to the forensic medicine department and mortuary for post-mortem examination to determine the cause of death," he said, adding that there are eyewitnesses willing to provide additional information related to the incident.
