Former Melaka rep Abdul Ghafar dies

MELAKA: Former Asahan assemblyman Datuk Seri Abdul Ghafar Atan died at the Melaka Hospital at about 1.04pm today.

His passing was confirmed by his daughter Nor Halis Abdul Ghafar who said the burial is expected to be held after Maghrib prayers at the Kampung Asahan Muslim cemetery.

It was previously reported that Abdul Ghafar who was also formerly a Melaka state executive councillor, had contracted Covid-19 last week.

He was put in a coma after his condition deteriorated.

Abdul Ghafar contested as a Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate in the 11th General Election for the Gadek seat. He defended the seat in the next general election in 2008.

In the 13th General Election, he stood in Asahan and won, subsequently retaining the seat in the following general election.
