Firemen from 8 stations battle massive blaze at Segambut warehouse

KUALA LUMPUR: A warehouse in Jalan Kg Pasir, Segambut, dealing in half cut cars and used automotive parts, caught fire this evening.

The massive blaze at Suzuka Auto Parts, which began at 5.40pm, sent plumes of thick black smoke into the air and reduced traffic along Jalan Kuching and Jalan Segambut to a crawl.

The intense heat from the blaze was felt by motorists driving past the scene.

Scores of videos and images of the huge fire have since been shared on social media.

The Kuala Lumpur Fire and Rescue Department said they were alerted to the incident at 5.50pm.

The department dispatched 83 rescue teams from eight stations, namely Jinjang, Sentul, Sri Hartamas, Hang Tuah, Titiwangsa, Taman Tun Dr Ismail, Wangsa Maju and Seputeh, to the scene.

Operations commander Muhamad Ridhwan Kamarulzaman said the warehouse, measuring 12 x 30 metres, was 90 per cent destroyed.

The firemen, he said, were split into sections to battle the fire and prevent the blaze from spreading.

He said no injuries or casualties have been reported so far.

Efforts to contain the blaze are ongoing.
