KUALA LUMPUR: The implementation of lowering the voting age to 18 (Undi18) and automatic voter registration will take effect from Dec 15.
Election Commission (EC) secretary Datuk Ikmalrudin Ishak said Section 3(a) and (b) of of the Constitution (Amendment) Act 2019 has been gazetted on Dec 1 after receiving royal assent from Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah.
"Amendments to the subsidiary laws related to the election, namely, Elections (Registration of Electors)(Amendment) Regulations 2021 and Elections (Conduct of Election)(Amendment) Regulations 2021 were gazetted on Nov 30 as P.U.(A) 433/2021 and P.U.(A) 434/2021 after receiving the royal assent from the Yang di-Pertuan Agong in accordance with Section 17 of the Election Act 1958," he said in a statement today.
He said the amendments to the regulations would be tabled in Parliament soon.
