Home Ministry finalising specifications for police bodycam

KUALA LUMPUR: The Home Ministry is finalising the specifications of bodycams it plans to purchase for the police through the ePerolehan (procurement) system.

Minister Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin said the 2,040 cameras slated to be bought would be distributed to 85 locations including police stations, district and state police headquarters as well as Bukit Aman as part of the 12th Malaysia Plan's (12MP) first rolling plan.

"We are inviting all suppliers who are qualified through an open tender via the ePerolehan system," he said in a parliamentary written reply to Lim Lip Eng (Kepong-PH).

He said as of now no particular models have been decided on.

"However the specifications that are needed are that the devices be of high quality, use Artificial Intelligence (AI), can live stream and are Sirim accredited."

Former Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin announced that the government had allocated RM30 million for the devices in March.

Soon after, then-Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Abdul Hamid Bador said he expected the body cameras to be in use by September or November this year.
