99 per cent new Covid-19 cases are in Categories 1 and 2

KUALA LUMPUR: Ninety-nine per cent of the new Covid-19 cases reported today are in Categories 1 and 2.

Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said that out of 3,074 cases today, Category 1 and 2 patients make up to 3,044.

"The remaining one per cent or 30 cases, are under Category 3, 4 and 5," he said in a statement today.

The new cases reported today pushes the total cases since the pandemic began to 2,805,337 cases.

Of today's new cases, 2,755 were local transmissions while 319 were imported.

Dr Noor Hisham also said number of patients being treated in the intensive care units nationwide had dropped to 193.

A total of 158 are confirmed Covid-positive and the other 35 cases categorised as suspected, probable and under investigation.

"Ninety of them are on ventilator support with 61 confirmed Covid-19 cases and 29 classified as patients under investigation or suspected to have the virus," he added.

Dr Noor Hisham said 12 deaths related to Covid-19 were recorded including two brought in dead (BID) cases as of midnight yesterday (Jan 14).

Meanwhile, he said 2,828 recoveries were recorded today, raising the recovery tally to 2,732,771.

Covid-19 active cases as of midnight was 40,558.

Dr Noor Hisham also said the ministry had detected 10 new clusters, bringing the number of active clusters to 176.

As of yesterday, the country's Covid-19 infectivity rate (Rt) remained at 1.0.

Kuala Lumpur reported the highest Rt value at 1.08 followed by Putrajaya (1.06) Sabah at (1.05), Melaka (1.02), Negeri Sembilan (1.01), and Selangor (1.0).

States that recorded infectivity below 1.0 are Johor (0.99); Penang and Kedah (0.96), Pahang (0.94); Perak (0.93), and Kelantan (0.91).

"Infectivity rate in Terengganu was 0.8 while no Rt value was assigned for Sarawak, Perlis and Labuan," he added.
