41,199 active Covid-19 cases

KUALA LUMPUR: Several states have seen an upward trend in Covid-19 infections over the past week, according to the Health Ministry's CovidNow portal.

Melaka and Kuala Lumpur saw a 16 per cent increase in Covid-19 cases in the last seven days, followed by Johor (12 per cent increase), while Pahang and Selangor saw a 10 per cent increase each in the past week.

The portal, last updated at 8.06am, reported 41,199 active Covid-19 cases in the country, four days after breaching the 40,000-mark on Jan 13.

Of the total, 82 per cent or 33,784 people are placed under home quarantine, 9.9 per cent (or 4,080 people) at Integrated Quarantine and Treatment Centres; and 7.7 per cent (or 3,153 patients) are hospitalised.

Covid-19 cases make up 65.6 per cent of hospital bed utilisation.

A total 99 patients are currently being treated at intensive care units (ICU) with 83 of them requiring ventilator support (ICU utilisation at 52.7 per cent).

There were 308 hospital admissions in the Klang Valley with bed utilisation rate at 57 per cent.

Selangor recorded the highest hospital admissions at 227, while Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya registered 65 and 16 admissions, respectively.

Other states that reported new hospital admissions were Johor (157), Kedah (31), Kelantan (52), Melaka (13), Negri Sembilan (43), Pahang (19), Perak (34), Penang (nine), Sabah (91), Sarawak (49), Terengganu (12). There were no new hospital admissions in Perlis and Labuan yesterday.

Malaysia's Covid-19 death toll stands at 31,793 with 12 more fatalities recorded yesterday.

Of the new deaths, no brought-in-dead (BID) cases were recorded, with the tally at 6,415.

On vaccination rates, 97.8 per cent of the adult population nationwide (22,903,466 adults) are now fully vaccinated, with 99 per cent having received at least one dose and one per cent (225,780 adults) unvaccinated.

To date, 2,773,734 adolescents (88.1 per cent) aged between 12 and 17 are fully vaccinated.

Of the total population, 25,677,200 people (78.6 per cent) have been fully vaccinated, 368,209 people (1.1 per cent) partially vaccinated and 6,611,991 people (20.2 per cent unvaccinated).
