More aid for Selangor flash flood victims

TANJUNG KARANG: Another RM1 million worth of household essentials were distributed to victims of December's flash-floods.

This time, 500 residents of Kampung Bestari Jaya in Selangor were the beneficiaries, courtesy of the National Prihatin Foundation (Prihatin) and DXN Holdings Berhad under the 'Program Sentuhan Kasih'.

The victims were provided an assortment of washing machines, refrigerators, rice cookers, fans, mattresses, food and clothes.

Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Minister Tan Sri Noh Omar, who is also Tanjung Karang member of parliament, officiated the event at the at the Kampung Bestari Jaya multipurpose hall.

Present were Prihatin chief executive officer Datuk Mohd Aizuddin Ghazali, Federation of Malaysian Business Association chairman Datuk Abdul Malik Abdullah and Federal Territory Islamic Religious Council chairman Tan Sri Mohd Daud Bakar.

Just last month, Prihatin teamed up with DXN Holdings to offer a total RM1.56 million worth of household items to similar flood victims, in other areas.

These included 500 flash-flood victims who were provided the household items at Kampung Sungai Serai and those at Bukit Lanchong, respectively, in Hulu Langat, Selangor.

The two organisations similarly assisted a further 500 of the victims from the Jalan Tiong Nam dwelling (off Jalan Raja Laut) and surrounding areas, close to Sungai Gombak.

Noh, who later visited damaged homes of the victims in Tanjung Karang, lauded efforts by non-governmental organisations for their generosity.

He, however, urged other government agencies, corporate companies and well-off individuals to demonstrate greater concern towards the well-being of the victims.

"Any form of assistance, whether in cash or kind is most welcome, especially for those affected by the floods or even the Covid-19 pandemic.

"Community leaders, too, should step forward with similar kind gestures to alleviate the victims' sufferings," said Noh.

Meanwhile, Aizuddin explained that the joint 'Program Sentuhan Kasih' by Prihatin and DXN had begun since last December.

"It is aimed at assisting the flash-flood victims.

"We as a foundation bear the responsibility to support the aspirations of the 'Keluarga Malaysia' as inspired by the prime minister (Datuk Sri Ismail Sabri Yaakob).

"We will strive to continue channelling assistance and donations for the affected flood victims.

"Our strategic collaboration wiith DXN has enabled us to distribute the contributions expeditiously, to meet the victims' immediate living needs," said Aizuddin.

He assured of their commitment and that the collaboration would continue to be consistently empowered via various planned programmes for the whole of this year.

Aizuddin said many of the victims were still suffering and in need of assistance, despite the flash-floods that occurred two months ago.

"That is why we are continuing with our efforts to answer the call by the government to live through the 'Keluarga Malaysia' concept of assisting one another.
