KOTA KINABALU: The number of daily Covid-19 cases in Sabah has dropped slightly to 4,794 new infections with three new clusters detected.
Of the cases today, 64.2 per cent were sporadic infections which indicated that future daily caseloads would remain high, said Sabah Covid-19 spokesman Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun.
Despite a large number of cases, Masidi said, a majority of those infected only suffered mild or no symptoms at all.
"A total of 99.56 per cent or 4,773 out of 4,794 cases are under categories One and Two. There are 11 cases in Category Three, nine cases in Category Four, and one case in Category Five today," he said in a statement.
The new education clusters were triggered at two schools in Ranau and one in Kota Belud.
The Batu Enam cluster in Kota Belud involved a 15-year-old female student of SMK Taun Gusi 2 who experienced symptoms on Feb 9 and was found positive the next day after receiving treatment in Kota Belud Hospital. This cluster recorded 19 cumulative cases so far.
The Jalan Sugut Ranau cluster in the Ranau involved SMK Ulu Sugut. The index case was a female teacher, aged 39, who was detected through symptomatic screening on Feb 7.
Through screening of close contacts, this cluster has detected 49 positive cases.
As for the Kemburongoh 2 cluster in Ranau, the index case was a security guard of SMK Kemburongoh aged 52. He was detected positive on Feb 7 and to date, this cluster has recorded 54 cases.
Masidi said the first education cluster detected this year, namely the Jalan Kepayan Tambunan cluster which involves SMK Tambunan ended today.
Thus far, Sabah has had 30 education clusters out of 41 active clusters in the state.
Meanwhile, Masidi said 13 districts recorded three-digit cases and Kota Kinabalu topped the list with 904 cases.
Only Tongod recorded zero cases while the rest of the district recorded double-digit cases, he said.
On Sabah's immunisation programme, Masidi said 11,331 individuals were vaccinated on Feb 16, of which 9,181 were adults while 68 were teenagers and 2,082 were children.
Sabah also registered 14 deaths and 1,708 recoveries (cumulatively 249,995) today.
