Missing Norwegian diver found safe, boat captain positive for meth [NSTTV]

MERSING: A Norwegian who was reported missing with three other divers in Pulau Tokong Sanggol here yesterday has been found safe.

Kristine Grodem, 35, was found safe and taken to the Mersing Mini Stadium by helicopter at about 12.05pm and then brought to the Mersing Hospital for treatment.

Grodem, who is a dive master, was reported missing together with British national Adrian Peter and his 14 year old son Nathan Renee, who is a citizen of the Netherlands, and French woman Alexia Alexandre, 18, during a diving exercise yesterday afternoon.

Meanwhile, police have arrested the boat captain who took the divers to the dive location, after he tested positive for drugs.

Johor police chief Datuk Kamarul Zaman Mamat said the captain was arrested at 11.30pm yesterday after giving his statement at the Mersing district police headquarters.

"He tested positive for methamphetamine use when we conducted a urine test," said Kamarul Zaman.

He said police will conduct a thorough investigation on the incident, including on the dive equipment and the location which was used as the dive centre.

"The forensics team will arrive to conduct the investigation. We will also investigate if there is any issue of negligence," said Kamarul Zaman after monitoring the search and rescue operation at the forward operating base at the Mersing District Council public jetty.

He said the captain's case is being investigated under Section 15(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
